Levitan FPS Optical Stylet
Levitan FPS Optical Stylet

The Levitan FPS stylet is a short malleable optical stylet conceived by Dr. Levitan to fiberoptically augment direct laryngoscopy.

The FPS length mimics a standard malleable stylet. It is intended for use in every laryngoscopy, replacing a standard stylet for shaping and handling of the tracheal tube. In easy direct laryngoscopy the instrument can be used to place the tube under direct vision, without looking through the eyepiece, although the fiberoptic view can provide immediate visual confirmation of intratracheal placement. In situations of poor glottic exposure, however, it can be used for fiberoptic-guided intubation within the time frame of inserting a standard stylet.

The FPS can be also used without a laryngoscope , adjusting its malleable stylet to a more extreme bend angle, about 70 degrees. Finally, the FPS can permit fiberoptic intubation through a supraglottic airway, or placed alongside a previously placed tracheal tube to verify tube position.

The Levitan FPS uses any Greenline fiber optic laryngoscope handle, however, Airway Cam has arranged the production of an ultra-miniature handle, the Black Micro, specifically for the Levitan FPS optical stylet. It is 3.5” long and uses a single lithium CR123 battery. It provides brilliant light in an easy to handle package. Only $89.00! An Airway Cam exclusive!

Both the Black Micro and the Mini handles use a single lithium CR123 battery, shown next to a quarter, on the left side of the image.
